Last night we had our welcome to the tour dinner. Mostly a mix of Aussies, Canadians with a few Americans who were thrilled that so many Australians were in the group as they said it is like travelling in a rolling comedy show. We all took that as a compliment and were impressed that they get Aussie humor.
This morning awoke to a wet and cold Vienna. By the time we left for our walking tour of the city the rain had stopped and once the walking started I soon warmed up. These local guides give you so much information and a good history lesson I just wish I could remember it all.
At 11 o'clock we headed of to Bratislava which is the capital city of the Slovak Republic and less then an hours drive from Vienna. I have been to this city before and my main memory is of a very wet day and the hot chocolate shop in the main square. The chocolate shop was still there but…… due to time constraints I didn't get to try another cup of their chocolatey deliciousness. DISAPOINTMENT! At least there was no rain and we had another local guide and he was fantastic and gave us a good tour of the old city and castle on the hill. We learnt that this beautiful baroque city owes its existence to Queen Maria Teresa who did a lot to improve the lives of the local people during the 1600's especially the women.
